Jane's Newsletter

January 2025 | No. 8

Hello, dear reader, and Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the holidays and stayed cozy.

I think I’ve solved why writing this newsletter has felt… daunting. I made the mistake of writing each newsletter in a single stroke. I was carving out a solid six to eight hours in my day to write it. That’s intense, no?

So I think the trick is to just write a little bit each day. This way the newsletter can develop slowly, and doesn’t feel like a painful sprint.

The Artist’s Mindful Tool Kit

Evaluate your relationship with your phone.

Feeling controlled by technology, I decided to read My Brain Has Too Many Tabs Open by Tanya Goodin. The book inspired me to truthfully evaluate my relationship with my phone.

Being reachable and responsive to anyone and everyone 24/7 is… exhausting. Mindlessly scrolling on social media with no sense of purpose is exhausting. Advertisements invading my home through my phone screen is exhausting.

Anyway, why am I suggesting this as a mindful tool for artists? Phones do a great job depleting our creativity, attention, and motivation. And maybe that’s something worth being honest with ourselves about.

Media

I had the pleasure of participating in interviews with CanvasRebel and Bold Journey magazines. I talk about my early years as an actor, lessons I’ve learned along the way, and mental health. Enjoy!

A Monologue

I’d like to find some new monologues in 2025.

Here’s one I’ve been working on for the past couple of years (from Arthur Miller’s play After the Fall). I routinely pick it up and put it back down again. I love this monologue because it always challenges me, and I’m particularly pleased with this recorded version.

Nonetheless, I’m excited to learn new monologues in the new year and give this one a break.

Speed Queen 51

Speed Queen 51 had its NYC premiere back in October 2024 (oh my goodness, that feels so terribly long ago!) Thank you to all the beautiful people who supported the premiere! It was lovely to see you at the theater and receive your warm messages online.

When the film becomes publicly available to watch online, I promise to let you know! I’m dying for you to see it.

ASMR Study Hall

ASMR Study Hall is officially a small business! I’m currently selling an ASMR Study Hall themed sticker in my online shop at asmrstudyhall.store

I have a few more sticker designs in the works that I can’t wait to show you. I think they’re very cute, and ASMR listeners will love them.

Wishing you lots of joy and strength in the new year. xoxo jane
