Jane's Newsletter
December 2023 | No. 3

December. The autumn & winter seasons remind us to rest and reflect. And the cold, barren landscape encourages us to savor pockets of warmth and gratitude.
Thank you for joining me in my third newsletter. It’s been fun so far, hasn’t it?
This newsletter includes some acting updates from November, the artist’s mindful tool kit, and a blog post on how to soothe the inner art critic. I have an exciting project in store for the ASMR YouTube Channel, but we’ll have to wait until January’s newsletter.
So, let’s take a look.
Acting News
Joining SAG-AFTRA

After four years of acting in NYC (three if we count the Pandemic), I’m officially a Union-protected actor. It’s been an incredibly long road, and there were times when I doubted I’d ever become eligible.
A huge thank you to all of the amazing people who helped me achieve this professional milestone. I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for believing in me.
Strange and Splendid

This November I had the opportunity to perform in a reading workshop of Strange and Splendid, written by Emily Elyse Everett and directed by Miguel Bregante. Emily’s charming play was the winner of The Frank Moffett Mosier Fellowship for Works in Heightened Language for 2022 .
It was a joy to work so closely with Emily, who joined us in each rehearsal to workshop her script. Miguel, in his usual fashion, turned the reading into a living, breathing ensemble that kept the audience engaged and listening.
Miss Julie

Finally, we wrap up November with a scene from Miss Julie. Delia Dumont invited me to perform in a scene for her directing class at Columbia University (I was Christine).
This was my first time meeting and working with Delia, and I was immediately drawn to her directing style and eye for scene analysis. Yes, she had a bowl of oranges on stage. Yes, she had us squeeze and destroy them in our hands. Things got sticky.
It’s now my mission to perform in an entire production of Miss Julie. What a play.
The Artist’s Mindful Tool Kit

Make the bed.
In my last newsletter, I wrote about wanting to protect at least 10% of my foundation when I’m working on a long-term production. I think making my bed is the answer.
As someone who routinely doesn’t make their bed, I decided to adopt this new habit. I’ve noticed that a tidy bed makes me feel calmer, grounded, and more focused. And it’s easier on my eyes when I walk into my bedroom.
Making my bed sets my mood for the entire day, making me feel more creative, motivated, and inspired–– a small, mindful task that generates dividends.
