Jane's Newsletter
June 2024 | No. 6

Did I say this would be a monthly newsletter? Oops.
April and May brought me some puzzles, sweet treats, and quick sand, so I needed to be very careful about where I delegated my energy. Did I do a good job delegating this energy? Meh, I’ll never know. But it meant the newsletter didn’t get attention for a little while.
My ASMR channel didn’t get much attention either. Poor thing.
But, the good news is that other areas of my life did receive some much deserved care, which is worth celebrating!
Now, what’s in today’s newsletter? I’ll attach some photos from my recent show Scrubland, share exciting news about the short film Speed Queen 51, and send you my most recent ASMR ambience.

The Artist’s Mindful Toolkit

There’s a narrative within the artistic community that ‘success’ is rewarded to the hungriest artist in the room. In other words, the gig is earned by the person who wants it most.
This message triggers a fear response in some artists, myself included. Why? Because prime conditions ripen the nagging belief that there is someone who wants it more than us. Therefore, our commitment to the craft is in constant jeopardy. This scarcity mindset gradually fosters a sense of urgency, desperation, and unhealthy productivity.
That being said, a mindful tool to practice is stillness.
If the thought of stillness makes you convulse, just remember that even when you’re still, the seeds you’ve planted still continue to grow. So while you rest, retreat, and recover, the energy you’ve previously sent out into the world is still working for you.
Scrubland

April and May I had the opportunity to perform in Scrubland, written by Stephen Bush. It was my first time performing as multiple characters on stage, and I loved it. Since these characters were related (grandmother, mother, and daughter), I had to highlight their differences while also preserving their familial similarity. It was a wonderful challenge.

Aren’t the visuals stunning? Miguel Bregante and Catalina Beltrán— our directors — turned the barren Shadeburne, Nevada into a balanced and evolving landscape.

Miguel and I worked together on Dancing at Lughnasa in autumn 2023, and this was my first time working with Catalina. I’ve wanted to work alongside Catalina for a long time now, so I was very happy to finally join her in the rehearsal room!

More photos coming soon! I’ll share an album on my website.
Speed Queen 51

Speed Queen 51 is having its World Premiere at The Palm Springs International ShortFest.
Yup. We’re going to California!
Variety included Speed Queen 51 in its article covering the festival. How cool.
It was last year that we shot this film in two nights at a laundromat, and I still gush about it. Sarah Nocquet (the writer and director) cast me in one of my earliest film roles in NYC, back in 2019. It was an honor to join her again in 2023, to see how much we’d both grown, and to put our trust in one another.
Exploring the characters with Rory Culkin was great fun. My acting was stretched and challenged in ways it had never experienced before. I can’t wait for you to witness the dynamic between these two strangers.
SHOWTIMES:
In Person | SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2024 | 11 AM | Regal 5 | Brief Encounters Program
Virtual Festival Dates | July 10-14
ASMR Study Hall
As I mentioned earlier, I haven’t been posting on ASMR Study Hall as much as I would like. However, I am regaining strength, and am excited to share my recent ambience, Rainy Gamer Room.
I sat in my closet and recorded the sounds of my game controller and keyboard. I even recorded some of the clothes in my closet to mimic the sound of cozy blankets.
I really enjoy listening to this one. It’s perfect for a lazy day.
Blog
I don’t have a blog post to publish at the moment. However, here are some previous blogs if you haven’t had a chance to read them yet:
As always, thank you for reading my newsletter! It’s a pleasure putting the pieces together and sending it out into the world. Enjoy your summer, and I’ll write to you soon! Xoxo
